ERT: Whidbey Island home needs volunteers for salvage
By Jim Truitt

Whidbey Island project also will serve as an ERT exercise for further training

I have received a request for support from the Island County Emergency Manager via the Washington State Volunteer Organizations Active In Disaster (WAVOAD).

A home that is currently “Yellow-Tagged” will need to have items removed and have installation work done. Note: The site is safe to enter but not for habitation. Having this home yellow-tagged will give the homeowner time to remove whatever he wants from the home.

Items to be salvaged:

  • Oak flooring (approximately 1800 sq. ft.)
  • Oak crown molding
  • Oak window, door trim
  • Oak doors

Tasks:

  • Apply plywood to doors and windows.
  • Ronda Cordill will coordinate VIM teams to reinstall the windows and doors, following salvage tasks.

Goals:

  • Use this as an exercise for ERT processes
  • Build team rapport and reach out to the community
  • Complete overall project by May 20 (materials need to be removed and securing tasks need to be completed by the 19th)

Another note: power and sanitary facilities will be available.

If you can support this ERT deployment, please let me know as soon as possible and let me know when you would be available. Thank you to those who have responded; we appreciate your support.
